My Home: A Blank Canvas

Perfectionists.
We can be perfectionists at times.

All or nothing.

That was true of our decorating. All or nothing.

Well, we leaned towards “nothing” for a good 7 years.

Bare walls. No pictures. Old furniture

Do it right, or don’t do it at all.

Then I found my inspiration…

Domino magazine.

I loved this gals funky taste.

Vintage prints.

Simple.

Blues.

So we went for it!

Loved this so much, I just outright copied it!

My green does not photograph well.

It has much more life than this!

Chalkboard paint (another exact copy, just had to do it!)

Firehubby drew the line here! DARN!

Looks like fun to me!

(Update:My awesome bloggy friend Mighty M just told me that Domino Magazine went out of business. I have just confirmed it. What a shame.)

Wow, you are so modern! You did an awesome job!

I saw the house with the swings on Oprah one time. I think they'd get on my nerves. ha.

How cute!

I've always wondered if that chalkboard paint really worked.

It's a shame you couldn't talk hubby into the swings. You'd be the hit of the neighborhood.

I'm never even heard of the magazine, too bad they went out of business.
You guys did a fantastic job of taking what they showed and replicating it~beautiful!
The kids swinging would be every kids dream in their home!

Looks great. We have the inspiration, but are waiting on the money. I'm tired of the blank walls right now, tho. :-(

Is that our house?

Didn't recognize it without the kid's TOYS and clothes laying all over the place! :)

Mrs. Fire Wife, tell your gentle readers WHERE in the house that chalkboard room is! :)

Wow, your house looks SO clean!!! If I were to post a picture of what my family room looks like at this very instant, your eyes would roll back in your head, seriously.

I love the chalkboard paint...what a great idea!!!! Oh and I love the little trapeze swings hanging from the ceiling...can't believe your hubby wouldn't allow that...LOL!

What beautiful rooms. What! No trapeze? He's no fun. ;o)

Hey Julie! Thanks for the comment. My daughter is doing great. She is very hard headed though not really sure where she gets it from, lol. Feel free to add me to the Nurses Sidebar. Actually, I work at an in patient rehabilitaion facility which focuses mainly on orthopedics, (elective replacements as well as fracture repairs). We do, however, see a little of everything debilitating that would require Physical/Occupational/Speech Therapy-CVA's, CABG, MVA's, etc. Have a great weekend ~Gracie

How cool is your home remodel. I am completely interior design illiterate. I may have to do what you did and just copy the magazine exactly! I'm overwhelmed with the thought of decorating a 4 bedroom home eek!

I had a friend that bought swings that they could install in their house. I think it was through Ikea, (you know, just in case your husband changes his mind and thinks a swing in your living room is a good idea)

Ooops, I forgot to answer your question about the free movies. I didn't do it last summer b/c I felt like Cole and Bella were still a little too young to sit still but this summer, they're totally ready for the movies. The free movies here didn't get too crowded from what I heard from friends who went but I guess it depends on the area you're in. Since it's first-come, first-serve, you should probably get there a little earlier than usual the first time you try it and then you'll get an idea of how early you need to be for the next time.

I love the colors you chose! And the chalkboard paint??? What's that? Never heard of it! Very cool though!

Oh my gosh! That is so awesome.. and yet, after reading to the end, I am SO sad that the magazine is now out of business. Darn economy.. that SHOULD have been a winner. I love their style.. and I love the way you ran with it. Cute, cute stuff, from the rolling cart in the kitchen to the chalkboard paint (I've wanted to do that in my boy's playroom.. I REALLY need to do that, but he's almost getting too old now...). Or, are you EVER really too old for a chalkboard? hmmmmm....
Love your blog.. you are so stinkin' creative that if I didn't feel like you'd be an awesome friend, I'd be jealous...

Hi there!

Just discovered your blog via My Charming Kids. Love you husband's blog as well!

I am a fire fighter's wife and proud of it!

I am an elementary school teacher turned stay-at-home mommy.

I am a sister to an oustanding ICU nurse! Love you guys!

And, we just started putting color/art/decor on our walls after living in a sterile "model" home like atmosphere for the past 8 years!!! LOL
