Sleep, Sweet Sleep

Tired.

After a long week at work and a busy week at home…I’m tired.

Are you?

We do earn our weekends!

Unless you are a nurse (or even a firewife, the more I think of it) then, there is really no such thing as knowing that every weekend is your very own.

I was thinking about how much sleep I need.

A straight 8.

If I get that, I am feeling good…less, not so much.

How about you?

When I was a night nurse and single, I could (and often would) sleep for 12-16 hours every chance I got. I was skilled!

Sleep, sweet sleep.

Once, when I was in high school, I was so exhausted that I did NOT want to get up.

I know, I know, but I mean it was worse than usual.

But I was not sick, so there was no excuse for me. However, mom had not gotten back from her nursing shift yet and so I told my bro who was supposed to drive me to school that I was staying home sick.

Then, I opened my closet, made a nest and got into it.

Yep, I slept all day in my closet… (stop laughing!)

That poor mom of mine got home and went to bed after her night shift. And we both enjoyed that sweet bliss, known as sleep.

Thankfully, we did not own a gun, or things could have gotten ugly!

But I digress…later that afternoon, brothers began arriving home.

Before long, I heard footsteps… and then, the closet door swung open!

“BUSTED!” shouted annoying brother #3, laughing his bottom off, “Wait until Mom hears this!”

But you know what…I didn’t get in trouble! (Ha, ha, annoying brother, picture me sticking my tongue out here)

My mom later said, if I was so exhausted that I was willing to sleep in the closet, then she was willing to turn a blind eye to the infraction.

But, I was instructed not to do it again.

Sometimes, for old time sake, I get my pillows and blankets and sleep for the day in my closet…

Had you going! LOL!

Thanks for dropping by!

What I wouldn't give for a "weekend" every weekend. (I know, the schedule eventually rotates just so, so that his 4-day does fall over a Thursday, Friday, Saurday, Sunday, but it's just so infrequent!!!)

I think mom was on to something...any teenager who could fall asleep in the closet, must have been really tired!!!

If I don't get 8 hours I'm worthless. Thanks for the cute story.

I have to have my sleep or I simply can't function! I can be a grumpy gus!

I just can't sleep long either because I have lists to finish. I know OCD and crazy kicking in.

No less than 6 hours for me. The more sleep the better. And I have thought more than several times to go sleep in my closet. It's dark, cozy, quiet. Ahhh.

That is hilarious! Wow, you REALLY WERE tired, weren't ya?

I survive on about 6 hrs a night... give or take a little. I prefer a full 8, but that's rare these days!

I am longing for a day to just lay in bed all day long watching movies. So yes, I could use some rest too!

And weekends? I have a hard time keeping track what day of the week it is. Saturdays rarely feel like Saturdays other than everyone else seems to be doing something with their families.

Very funny...I'm tired all of the time, but Friday I do seem especially tired. The closet would be a little hot, tho...

I cannot even remember the last time I got 8 straight hours of sleep. And I don't expect to for at least another 16 years (when all the kids are out of the house, away at college)

I don't think I've ever slept longer than 10 hours, and that probably didn't happen very often. I need at least 7.5 hours now. I get about 6.5-7 most nights. Sometimes I feel worse when I get MORE sleep though. My step-daughter slept in a closet when she was young and my hubby was living with his dad. She will NEVER forget it either, she mentions it often! ;-)

I may have to try that! Maybe no one would find me in there...at least for a while. :) I'm sooooo tired too. I'm like you 8 is my magic number! I'm going to try to get that tonight. TGIF!!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!♥

Oh how I love to sleep too! But since I've been blogging it has been quite minimal! Priorities I know! Thanks for the laugh there Julie!

I used to sleep for 12-14 hours straight. Now I'm lucky if I get 8. Exhaustion seems to go hand-in-hand with motherhood.

And I just learned a valuable lesson from your mom. Tell her I said "Thanks!"

Sleep? What that?

I've had 6 babies in 10 years. I haven't had a good night's sleep for most of those years. But why would I except to? This is the stage of life that I am at. I'm at the point now, that I thank God for any amount of uninterrupted sleep that I do get!

Thanks for adding me to your blog list!

Oy! I would love a day of sleep! Too funny that you got busted in a closet! I'm glad your mom didn't see the sense in disciplining you if you really did need that extra sleep!

I'm not poking fun... I used to get out of the shower, lay down on the heater and cover up with a towel. High school requires extra Zzzzs :)

Hee! I may have to try that! I was so tired today, after meetings upon meetings, and flooding, and just craziness this week. I got 5 hours of sleep Tues. night and 4 hours Wed. night, and was dragging so bad on Thursday (when I had TWO meetings that I was in charge of, with one of them at my house, which had to be cleaned). Last night I went to bed at 10 and slept an extra 30 min. this morning. Dropped the boy off, came home, and slept for 2 hours. And now, it's bedtime again... I do love my sleep. I do believe I could do it in a closet with no problem!

I'm at my best after 8-9 hours of sleep (preferably 9!).. But I tell ya, I don't know when this happened. When I was in college 5 years ago, I functioned just fine on 3 hours of sleep a night. I always wonder what happened to me and how I became such a sleep-deprivation-light-weight :)

UGH! I am a night nurse and only work weekends. So boo on your bragging! Haha. I wish I could sleep 12 to 16 hours... I get that much in about 3 days if I'm working. I will sleep when I'm dead. I've got too much stuff to do... like stalk blogs after a 12 hour shift is over.

Whoa! I don't think I could sleep that long if I tried! I think my limit is 8, and then God starts annoying me until I finally work my way out.

Eight is good and 10 is much better...but most of all I jusdt like it when I do not HAVE to get up at any certain time.

That is SO SO funny!! I had a wonderful walk-in closet in my bedroom when I was growing up. Why didn't I ever think of that????

I too need my sleep and have always needed lots of sleep. Like you, back before kids, working night shift and with room darkening shades I could sleep 10-12 hours straight. Now my bladder wakes me up!
