We are in a drought in So. Cal.-It's gonna get ugly!

We are now officially in a drought out here in Southern California.

The water company just sent out a notice that we are only allowed to water our lawns on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday! Now, it’s 100 degrees out, so it won’t be long until all of the lawns are brown. Without irrigation, Southern California is just one big desert.

Firehubby did a wonderful thing a couple of years ago…he replaced the lawn in the backyard and put in a waterwise garden in our backyard. His hard work paid off. I adore it. It is my refuge. This year we will reap the benefits of it’s drought resistance!

Take a peak at the pix I took when we finished the yard…my battery is down and so I couldn’t upload the pix of it today with the plants are more mature…will do so soon

Found recent pictures...we need to refinish the teak...I prefer it the honey color like above.

This picture is in the shadow, but you can see how much everything has grown. :)

Your backyard is so beautiful!!!! You'd laugh if I showed you pics of mine! I love everything about yours, from the little fountain in the middle of the walk area to the lawn furniture you have. It just spells out "relaxation" to me!

We haven't received any water shortage schedules here in Northern CA....yet. I have a feeling it's coming though!

Can you e-mail me when you get a chance? helene1108 (at) yahoo (dot) com I have a friend who's writing a book and needs some feedback from a trauma nurse. I'm not sure if that's in your arena but I instantly thought of you when she asked me if I knew anyone.

How beautiful! It looks like the perfect place to go and relax after a long day. Being drought tolerant can't hurt either it sounds like. We were on notice a few years ago. Thankfully not this year since we've recently reseeded much of our backyard where all the bushes were. We'd be living in a dustbowl if they restricted us this year!

I'm here from Grammy GF. Your back yard is amazing! We haven't any grass either, but i wish we looked something more like yours.

However, we did get a bit of rain today. And our high this year has only been 82 F. You need to come to BB to get some relief from that heat! :)

Beautiful. It looks like a wonderful, relaxing place. We have had an over abundance of rain in the UK recently, and a very wet summer so far, I wish I could share :-(

We've been through drought conditions and water shortages. We had two years where we had water restrictions placed on everyone. We learned to save every drop of water! One way I was able to continue watering my flowers was with "warm up" water. Each family member would place a bucket in the bathtub and catch all the water that ran until it warmed up enough for showers. The boys have a bigger shower, so they'd just leave the bucket in the shower with them. Soapy water does not harm flowers! I'd also use the "warm up" water to clean my floors. I read the water meter every day and kept a close watch on what we used, because the town would fine anyone who went over the limit. The experience made us appreciate the blessing of water. We no longer waste it!

For the first time in four summers, we are NOT in a drought! We're praising God for every drop of rain we get!
