Ana and the Mayo

My best friend Ana came again last night, yep, Anaphylaxis.

Get this, I took the kids to the local university pool and there were a group of young men swimming who were highly cologned up. Even after a couple hours of swimming, these guys STILL reeked of cologne.

Sure enough, I had gotten enough exposure to trigger a reaction. Thankfully, I was able to get the kids to a friend’s house before things got out of control and then called 911.

The good news, when I was in the ICU last month we came up with a very effective treatment. Racemic Epinepherine rocks! It only took about a 15 minute nebulizer treatment with the Racemic Epinepherine to reverse the swelling of my throat. That is the most effective treatment yet!

We are heading in the right direction with that. (Well, I also had Zyrtec/Claritin/Singulaire/Advair/Epipen/SQ epi/IV Benadryl/IV steroid onboard, but it absolutely was the Racemic Epi that did the trick.)

Well, other good news… I have an appointment at the Mayo Clinic in MN next month. After an entire year of this nonsense, I am more than ready for a second opinion.
They have some docs who specialize in anaphylaxis, plus they are a renowned institution. The appointment will take 3-5 days, with a hotel stay at night.

If you think of it, please pray for wisdom for my doctors. How wonderful it would be to return to good health!!!

Tomorrow night is my Valentine’s treat…yep Firehubby got me tickets to Keith Urban and Sugarland and it is tomorrow!

This is how I will look at the concert…since I have to wear a mask. I don’t want to end up in a hospital in downtown LA if Ana decides to come with us...

This is is another option...

But, I do have more fashion choices thanks to the swine flu...

Or, people may just think I am doing a tribute to Michael Jackson...

What look do you like best for my date night with Firehubby?

Pink bandana, definitely! I mean, with country music, you'll fit right in with a bandana! (oh, dear lawd, do I LOVE me some Keith Urban.. I am SO jealous that you get to see that simmering hunk of manliness in person! and Sugarland.. oh, girl! I grew up in Nashville and know my country.. you are TRULY blessed!). I am saying a prayer right now for God to protect you throughout the concert; what a scary thing it could be if you didn't have Him to cast your fears on!
And for the record... Firehubby rocks.. what a great gift! Have fun... and tell us all about it!

WHAT..... So glad that appointment is made.

I agree with Pam, bandana for sure, not sure pink is your color, but the bandana will fit right in.

See you tomorrow.

I vote for whatever works the best. How awful to have to deal with what other people are smelling like...good or bad. I think about you all the time now when I run into fragrances. Thank God they make unscented laundry soap & other soaps.
Hoping that you have a great time at the concert. I am jealous...also praying that your appointment goes well.

Julie - if you all need a place to stay, or whatever, we are very very close to the airport. (IN the Twin Cities, not Rochester.) We are about 90 miles from Rochester, so maybe you are flying in there.

But, if you have any time, we would love to have you over. Good luck with this. Lots of my friends go down to Mayo and get lots of help. It must be so scary!!

I have to tell you I love your mom blogs. I am going to start a journal thing for my daughter Claire and I to share, just like you suggested!

Anyway, we would love love love to see you, but completely understand if its too much, or you don't have time.

Best of luck to you, Kathleen

Have a great time at the concert! Hopefully Ana doesn't like country music :).

I'm glad you're okay!

I like that first one best, plus I think it would be much more effective than the bandana.

If that doesn't work, you could try sticking tampons up your nose.

I think knowing you, you could rock any of the above looks. I'm so sorry that happened but thank goodness for the right medications!

I finally hopped on over to your blog after talking about your name on Rachel and Mr. Daddy's. You see- we share the same name so I had to discuss it. It just wasn't an option. I have been following you Firefighter hubby for a little while now and knew about your friend Ana. I have read several of your posts just now and must admit- I'm addicted. Can't wait to start reading more!

The only thing I like about Ana is that she is bringing you closer to where I live. I'm sorry you had to go through this again. Enjoy the concert. I vote the white mask with big red lips drawn on it so Keith can see it. ;o)
