...that during surgery, it grosses me out to watch the scalpel on the skin?
Yep, it is true. When I scrub, I focus on the skin just to the side of the scalpel, just millimeters to the side. After that initial incision I am just fine.
I know, as a nurse I am supposed to be strong and handle anything that I do and see.
Well, we nurses have our weaknesses. For some it is m-eeewww-cus, other it is vomit, some it is the ol' "code brown".
For me...yep, the skin incision.
Hey...at least I don't faint at the sight of blood! LOL :)

I can't handle anything that comes out of the mouth. At all!
Better you than me, sister. My boy cut his finger with a whittling knife at Cub Scout camp, and I got a little weak-kneed seeing his hands covered with blood. Can't really abide too much of the other stuff, either. Gosh, when the little girls next door have a ton of goop coming out of their noses, I get queasy.... and if they want a hug and a kiss, I pretend I hear my phone and go running....
Gasp! I am not alone!
I can handle the fluids... but seeing a needle or scalpel makes me weak in the knees! How on earth do you overcome it? Cuz I'm about the only female in the fam who hasn't been to nursing school! (Umm yeah... for those reasons!)
Hair is my weakness. Bloody, sticky hair is the worst and makes me puke.
Glad you found a focal point that works for you. You'd have to find a differently specialty if you fainted every time you scrubbed into a surgery. :)
I would NOT be able to handle the brown fluids. Oh my gosh- NO WAY.
Ostomies get me every time. Not the poop, the ostomy.
No thank you...no blood or any other kind of bodily fluid. No needles, tubes, or any other kind of ick. Guess it is crystal clear why I am not a medical professional of any kind!
Blood I can handle. Vomit and smells are the issue with me! :-p
Ok for me it is all those things...good grief when someone says they are sick I automatically feel sick with the same symptoms. LOL
So true we all have our certain thing that revolts us! For as long as I can remember i have hated vomit! Sometimes I wonder how I ended up being a nurse! Lol
