I Want to Keep my Job...so,

Recently, my employer made an announcement.

"No staff member shall tweet, facebook, blog, or any other form of social networking, about patients. This is a violation of HIPAA and you could face discipline or termination."

We were told that even if we thought we were changing detail sufficiently, the medical center would assume we were not.

So, sadly, my days of posting Stories from the Delivery Room are over.

I have taken my posts down.

It has been a pleasure sharing my adventures with you.

My writing on being a firewife and mom shall continue.

(By the way, life has gotten in the way of blogging. As always, I have missed you.)

Curses to HIPAA and their laws! I will miss your tales from the delivery room, those are some of my favorite posts. As long as you're still around I guess I will survive.

Ahhh... one part of me says "That stinks!!!" But another part does say "Who knows who might read this and make a connection that could start a firestorm?" So, I "get" it. But maybe you could do "fictional" stories? Like.. this didn't REALLY happen, but... ? Nah, I didn't think so. Oh well, as long as you continue to blog, I'll be OK...

I hate organizations that overreact to situations like this. Imagine if they would just embrace technology!

I'm going to miss your L&D stories.

What a bummer! Like you mentioned names, addresses and all! Oh, well, I'm glad you'll continue blogging on other matters - when life isn't in the way.

Oh no way!!! I adore your "true life" stories! I will miss them, but will just have to scoot down to Cali to hear them in person :)

Glad to see you back missy!

Glad to hear from you again. I'll miss the stories but do understand why they have to be overly cautious. There are a lot of lawsuit-happy people out there.

missed you friend! what a bummer that you can no longer share your stories, but I look forward to hearing more about the other parts of your life!

HIPAA misunderstood once again by those who should know it best, scared by litigation horror stories into overreaction and nuke bomb policies. Oh well, better safe than sorry, and keeping a job is a plus, right?

Welcome back.

Typical of a hospital to over-react. I work in the PR dept of a hospital and our CEO has a blog. GIVE ME A BREAK. Tell your hospital to get with the times. There are several doctor's and nurses who blog and do so w/in HIPPA's guidelines. This just plain sucks. I loved your stories. But I also like hearing about your family too!

Aw Man! I hate to hear that! I loved reading your crazy tales of life as a L&D nurse! Oh well, I have a feeling life with firehubby has lent itself to many gut busting tales of their own, LOL!

I enjoyed reading your stories about your job, but I have really missed YOU. So, it doesn't matter to me what you write about...I'll enjoy whatever it is. :-)

Good to hear from you. Life (especially this summer with my brother) has gotten in the way of my blogging, too. Don't do it nearly as much.

Big HUGS...

Oh, I'm so let down, though I do understand. I'm just now attempting to rejoin the blogging world, too. I took about 3 months off this summer to spend with my family...no regrets, whatsoever! Glad you're back, too, Julie!

That's so crummy! I can't see what it would hurt to tell the stories like you were doing...no names, no exact information. Well, I'm really going to miss reading your Delivery Room posts, but I'll love reading anything you write!! Hope you're back to blogging soon!! You've been missed!!♥

HIPPA? What's HIPPA?

Over at Switch 2 Plan B, we don't know this "HIPPA" which you speak of....

Hi Julie from your bloggy friend in Oregon. Ive been off the blog too. My hospital has not made this mandate yet. Its a little weird when coworkers post about how they had a crazy shift etc. Or call in sick and then post about what they were really doing. hmmmmm. Love to read your posts even if you cant share any L&D stuff.

Okay... so if you can't talk about your nursing experiences, how about what made you want to become a nurse? :)

NOOOOOOOOOO. I love your stories and they have NEVER been a violation. You have been more than safe in preserving your patients rights. I am sorry to hear about that...I am excited to hear more family and wife stories. AND, Ps....NOW is the perfect time for a book because it does not involve social media.

I know....I pulled down all my posts, then revamped and am in the process of reposting - stripping off any references to my present job. I figure I am safe with the others...I had my professional body scouting out my site...and the Feds. So laying low is what I am doing now....

Oh, how I will miss your tales from the delivery room! :(

I enjoy your other posts too, though!

Life has gotten in the way of my blogging as well. Not to mention that it's a rare occasion that I have a *real* computer out. I hope that your family is doing well!
